It’s a great lesson about not being too precious about your writing… You can’t be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide, overthinking it…You have to let people see what you wrote.

And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.

Tell the truth as you understand it. If you’re a writer you have a moral obligation to do this. And it is a revolutionary act—truth is always subversive.

Looking back I imagine I was always writing. Twaddle is was too. But better far write twaddle or anything, anything, than nothing at all.

Writing is not like dancing or modelling; it’s not something where- if you missed it by age nineteen- you’re finished. It’s never too late. Your writing will only get better as you get older and wiser.
