6 Six Word Stories for the 6th

It’s been ages, since I last did this so I decided it was time once again for another exciting instalment of ‘6 Six Word Stories for the 6th.’

I used to only do this whenever the 6th fell on a Sunday but now… I think I’ll just do it whenever I feel like, and I feel like it today.

You probably know the rules by now. I roll some Story Dice and I write a six word story loosely based upon whatever image is displayed on each die, starting from the top left. I’m using a different app to last time (you can find it at davebirss.com), which gives you nine dice instead of six, so I’ve just selected the six ones I found the most inspirational (I’ve crossed out the ones I didn’t use).

As ever, the following stories are entirely my own work.

  • The alien aggressors came from Earth.
  • She had company when I returned.
  • Drilled through a cable. Lights out.
  • Ascending corporate ladder, bones crunch underfoot.
  • Story idea! Lost notepad. Forgot it…
  • Pencil strokes paper. Detective Mo lives.

Well, that was fun, but I know you can do better than me. Why not have a whack at writing your own six word stories and share them in the comments below, so we can all see how it’s really done?

Submissions for our Summer 2026 issue will open 1st April 2026.
